Winter Activities

If your first thought of having a cabin or owning property is as a summer vacation spot, you’re missing out on so much! Utah is known for its light fluffy powder snow and the state is covered in it for much of the year. To take advantage of each season, here are some activities in northeast Utah during the beautiful winter season.

Basically all the ares where we sell property receive snow for several months of the year. Some properties are at lower elevations and will get less accumulation of snow and will have longer spring/summer seasons. But each area has winter recreation to take advantage of through the winter months.

The most popular activities in the region are snowmobiling and ice fishing. The mix of open spaces and multiple reservoirs allows this area to have some of the highest quality of both activities. Other activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and sledding are perfect for families as well.

Ice fishing is so popular because of the many destinations in the region. Strawberry Reservoir is definitely the top spot but other more secluded locations are Currant Creek Reservoir, Red Creek Reservoir and of course, Starvation Reservoir.

Strawberry Reservoir provides some of the best fishing year round, but many don’t want to brave the cold. They are missing out! Most times when people have poor experiences with winter activities is because they weren’t properly prepared. If the right equipment is brought on these trips, it can make for a unique experience. And obviously, staying warm is the biggest key to this!

One way to stay warm when ice fishing is to bring an ice fishing tent. This will protect you from the wind and other elements. You can also use these tents to trap heat inside making it comfortable to catch great fish all day!

If there is one thing Strawberry valley is well known for during the winter, it’s snowmobiling! The state provides multiple locations around the reservoir to park your truck and trailers, unload and have direct access to a groomed trail. From there you can take off and explore the hills and beautiful forests!

The area is also home to a unique trail system that connects from Mirror Lake, to Mill Hollow to Strawberry. That is miles of trails through Utah’s beautiful backcountry! For more information on these trails and the ice fishing conditions, please check out the links below.
