Upper Stillwater Reservoir

Upper Stillwater Reservoir

If you’re looking for something to do this summer, take a quick drive to the edge of the Uintas. Upper Stillwater Reservoir is a great place to get away in the heat of the summer. Just 40 minutes north of Duchesne, a day trip is in order! Be sure to bring both your casting and fly rod as there are great options to use both.

The dam and cliff walls underwent extensive construction during the early 2000’s to fix leaks and to ensure there is no rock fall from the cliffs above. Now that the lake is open, you may carry small boats and tubes down the ramp to access the lake. Or you can take the trail on the other side of the lake and fish from the shore. This same trail will also connect you to the Highline Trail and also go deep into the High Uinta Wilderness.

Fly fishing is the real treat here. The river runs from the dam, down to a group of ponds and then on to Indian land. On the US Forest Service land, the fly fishing is wonderful! The fish don’t get particularly large here, but you have the chance to catch four different trout species.

Upper Stillwater is beautiful place to getaway to this summer and hit the water or find the shade under the large pines. A fantastic place to take the family and experience the peace of the Utah mountains.
