Lately in previous blog posts we’ve touched on many reasons why we and our clients love buying land in Duchesne County. Since most of our clients are looking for recreational properties, we wanted to highlight two of the best spots near by. And for those who are looking for residential land, well, you’ll enjoy these places even more!
Utah has many wonderful lakes and reservoirs all over the state but two of the best are right here in our backyard, Strawberry and Starvation Reservoirs.
Strawberry Reservoir:
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have land within just 10 minutes of Strawberry as it is one of the top recreational area in the state. Deservingly well known for its fishing, Strawberry has so much more to offer. Yes, the fishing is phenomenal from both boat and shore and even the river below holds some of the states largest fish. Ice fishing throughout the winter months has proven to be extremely successful as well.
But if you’re looking to do more than just fish, Strawberry can accommodate you. Surrounding the lake are dirt roads perfect for ATV and Side by Sides or even a nice backcountry drive. Hunting in the region is always a good bet as many deer and elk herds reside in all the mountains surrounding the reservoir. Strawberry is also one of the most popular places in Utah for snowmobiling. If you don’t have the right equipment, Daniels Summit just down the road can set you up with a rental.

Starvation Reservoir:
It often seems like the further east you go, the less attention a place gets. While Strawberry steals some of Starvations thunder, it is no less amazing! The reservoir lies on the west edge of the city of Duchesne and offers species of fish that are not in Strawberry.
Yes, there are plenty of trout and yes, they get just as big in Starvation (possibly bigger) than in Strawberry. But if you like a different type of game, Starvation is where you will find it. Here you will find Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch and Carp. The state park actually hold an annual Walleye fishing contest that has grown dramatically in recent years.
