Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing

Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing

When it comes to outdoor recreation in Utah, your first thought may be of Southern Utah or the Wasatch Range, such as the Cottonwood canyons. These are wonderful options with spectacular landscapes. But there is one place in Utah that sees far less people and has some of the most captivating mountain landscapes, Duchesne County.

Just an hour to an hour and a half from the Wasatch Front, a quiet day on the river is not that far away. Come up for the day, or spend the weekend on your property bouncing between all the different streams.

Falcon’s Ledge is a private fly fishing guide lodge north of Duchesne that takes clients to several different rivers that drain out of the High Uinta Wilderness. The main four rivers are Rock Creek, Lake Fork, Yellowstone and Uinta. On these rivers you can catch four major species of trout in the same day. Rainbow, brown, cutthroat and Brooke trout.

To give you an idea of the type of experience Falcon’s Ledge provides and the quality of fishing in the area, Orvis (the world leader in fly fishing) named them fly fishing lodge of the year, twice! Such an honor that being that lodge of the year once will bring business for 10 years. It’s a big deal!

Even closer to the Wasatch Front is the Strawberry River, which is really the crown jewel of fly fishing in this region. Located just 20 minutes east of Strawberry reservoir, there are parts of this stream that provide some of the largest river fish in all of Utah.

The are near the Strawberry Pinnacles is arguably the best stretch of the river where fish in the 30 inch range have been caught. As spring approaches, the insects will begin to hatch and the fish will be actively feeding after a long, hard winter.

Last summer this area suffered from a forest fire and soon after heavy rains caused massive mood slides that changed the course of the river. This change has created new feeding areas and holes for the fish to hide in, so be sure to walk to new river and find these new spots.

Winter will be coming to a close soon and the spring thaw will be in full effect. Don’t hesitate in planning your trips to these amazing locations and catching some of Utah’s best fish. We have dozens of properties within 10 minutes of some of these streams and they start as low as $24,900 with our owner financing program. Check out our properties, come on a land tour and see the area for yourself. The perfect weekend getaway is a lot less expensive than you think!
